Want to support marriage equality? There's a beer for that.
Love² beer (pronounced Love Squared) is a collaborative brew between "social enterprise beer company" The Good Beer Co and Bright Brewery to raise funds to support marriage equality.
Kegs of the beer have been tapped at fundraisers at pubs across Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Adelaide, and this weekend it's Canberra's turn.
The Old Canberra Inn in Lyneham has one keg only, which will be tapped at 2pm on Sunday and available until the keg runs dry.
Old Canberra Inn co-owner Ben Johnston said selling the beer is their way of doing something practical for a cause they feel strongly about.
"Obviously a beer is a good way for us to connect to the issue, given that that's what we do, we sell lots of delicious craft beer," he said.
"Whilst we tend not to be overtly political at the Old Canberra Inn, I think [marriage equality] is an issue that goes beyond politics and to human rights and discrimination, so we're very happy just to broadcast it and I think people in public positions should do that. Because if everyone does it simultaneously, it just becomes a non issue."
Bright Brewery's Scott Brandon calls Love², "a refreshing pale ale with a little bit of sweet malts that make this beer very easy to love. We love brewing it, we love drinking it, and we love sharing it with everyone, no matter what their preferences."
The profits from sales of the beer go to the Australian Marriage Equality campaign, and towards ongoing support for LGBTI communities across Australia.
If you want in, Mr Johnston advises to get in as close to 2pm as possible.
"There's only the one keg so I don't think it's going to last long. It'll be a matter of first in best dressed," he said.
