Canberrans have until midnight on Thursday to enroll or update their electoral details to take part in the Turnbull government's same-sex marriage postal vote.

Ballots for the non-compulsory survey won't be distributed until next month, but the Australian Electoral Commission said on Thursday afternoon the electoral roll had increased nationally by 54,545 people ahead of voting and more than 577,800 enrolment transactions had been processed since August 8.
Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has called on up-to-date voters to remind their family, friends and colleagues to check their enrolment before the deadline.
"If you do one thing today, please make sure you are enrolled to have your say before it's too late.
"Checking your enrolment is fast and easy, and saying 'yes' will make a difference to hundreds of thousands of Australians who just want to be able to marry the person they love.
"If Australia has to have this postal survey then Labor is determined to see the 'yes' case win – so we can finally make marriage equality a reality," Mr Shorten said.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has confirmed Australians overseas, living in aged care or based in very remote areas will be able to vote over the phone or online.
The paperless option will be available to eligible Australians who request a special access code to anonymously respond to the survey. Instructions will be provided in 15 languages, interpreter services will be available and Australians with hearing and speech impairments will receive assistance.
Canberrans will be able able to pick up survey forms from specified locations ahead of the November 7 cut off and silent electors, those whose addresses are not listed on the electoral roll, won't have their details disclosed to the ABS.
Voters will be asked: "Should the law be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry?"
Results of the survey will be counted in the form of 'yes', 'no' and invalid responses, broken down by federal electorates, state and territory jurisdictions and the overall national result.
The ABS said information from the Commonwealth Electoral Roll will be used to determine participation rates by age and gender for each federal electorate, with participation results published by gender and age groups.
Campaigning for the vote is under way, despite a challenge in the High Court on September 5 and 6.
Australia Post ordered the operator of a small post office on the New South Wales far south coast to remove a rainbow flag on Wednesday.
Cobargo post office licensee David Wilson said he was ordered to take the flag down, despite the town's support for same-sex attracted people.
"We believe we are a well-respected and accepted part of the community in Cobargo and it's important that we're a little bit more visible at this time," he told ABC radio.
Australia Post said in a statement its employees and representatives were entitled to their own views, but "as a government business enterprise Australia Post needs to ensure its post offices and other facilities are not used for making statements on political issues."
