No one can accuse Joan Young of attempting to do things half-assed, although the animals she looks after are exactly that.

The Sutton resident is Australia's largest breeder of miniature donkeys; her property is home to more than 100 of the species.
Starting 17 years ago with just three, Ms Young now has more than half of Australia's miniature donkey population.
"I always wanted to breed something, but I didn't want to breed something that people would want to eat, so donkeys were the obvious choice," she said.
Regular-sized donkeys are about 1½ metres tall, while their miniature counterparts grow to only 90 centimetres.
Apart from their size, Ms Young said there weren't many differences between miniature and regular donkeys.
"Their lifespan is about 50 years, but all donkeys can last that long if they're looked after," she said.
Ms Young sells American miniature Mediterranean donkeys, a breed that was introduced into Australia in the 1990s.
She said sometimes she was unable to keep up with public demand for the animals, which had increased ever since they were introduced.
"People are a lot more interested in them now that they know about them," she said.
"When we started breeding there were only 20 in Australia. Now there are over 200."
Across Australia there are between 20 and 30 breeders of miniature donkeys, although most breeders only have limited numbers.
Being one of the first breeders in Australia, Ms Young said she had been able to amass a large number of the species and now averages 20 new foals a year.
While the donkeys may be miniature, the price for a foal is anything but, with some selling for more than $10,000 depending on physical features as well as bloodlines.
Miniature donkey breeding isn't Ms Young's day job, however. She runs her own research company, and donkey breeding is simply her "release and indulgence".
Ms Young said the friendly nature of miniature donkeys made them the perfect companion.
"They're just affectionate and bring people a lot of joy," she said.
