Canberrans might have wondered whether winter took some time out this year, as the capital had its second warmest July on record.

Rain also fell on a record-breaking 21 days, compared to an average of 11 days.
The Bureau of Meteorology recorded much higher day and night temperatures than usual, with a peak warm spell between July 16 and 20.
Incredibly, these above-average temperatures came just a week after the city transformed into a winter wonderland on July 13.
Canberra airport recorded the city's second warmest July day ever and the warmest day in 41 years on July 20, at 18.8 degrees, more than seven degrees above the monthly average.
This was followed by July's warmest overnight temperature with a low of 11.1 degrees, which smashed the average night-time low of minus 0.1 degrees and beat the previous record of 10.5 degrees, recorded on July 29, 1975.
The bureau recorded four days straight above 16 degrees from July 16-19, which was the third-longest warm spell on record for the month.
Overall, the average minimum temperature was 2.2 degrees above average and the maximum temperature was 12.7 degrees, which beat the average temperature by 1.3 degrees.
The warmer and wetter weather came hand in hand, as Weatherzone meteorologist Kim Westcott said Canberra Airport recorded 71 millimetres of rain – the most since July, 2005.
"This is much higher than July's long term average of 41 millimetres," Ms Westcott said.
"The reason it was so much wetter and also why it was warmer is because we had frequent cold fronts coming through, which has brought above average rain."
"These cold fronts bring clouds along with them and the cloud acts like a blanket in the sky, keeping the heat in."
Ms Westcott said long periods of clear skies were needed to make nights freezing.
"We had a good period of really warm mornings which really pushed that average up," she said.
"The only time the mornings stayed really cold were at the beginning of the month, when we had the coldest morning of this July with a low of minus 5.2 degrees on Sunday, July 3."
Looking ahead, Ms Westcott said the rest of the week would stay fairly wet and she expected about 5-10 millimetres of rain.
Tuesday will be the coldest day, tipped to reach 11 degrees.
"Nights will drop to around one or two degrees, with days to reach around 11-13 degrees," she said.
"There will still be a bit of cloud around and days getting quite cool as a cold front is bringing quite cool and powerful air, but it will start to clear mostly by Saturday and Sunday."
