Police have not ruled out icy conditions as a factor in a head-on crash that claimed the life of one person on the Kings Highway, east of Queanbeyan, on Wednesday morning.

The Kings Highway was closed for several hours after two cars collided about 15 kilometres east of Queanbeyan shortly after 7.30am.
ACT Policing said one person died at the scene, and another was taken to hospital. The ages and genders of those involved have not been released.
"ACT Ambulance Service attended and confirmed one person had died at the scene and one person was treated for injuries and transferred to hospital," police said in a statement.
"The Kings Highway is closed in both directions east of the roundabout towards the ACT border while the Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team conduct its investigation. A report will be prepared for the coroner."
Acting officer in charge of ACT Traffic Operations Station Sergeant Ken Hedges said while it was too early to determine the cause of the crash, the inclement weather conditions might have played a part.
"That will be part of the investigation but I would imagine the weather we had this morning may have been a contributing factor," Station Sergeant Hedges said.
This is the fifth fatal crash in the ACT this year and the second in just two weeks.
Station Sergeant Hedges urged motorists to drive to the conditions.
"Any fatal accident police go to us always testing on you as a police officer. It never gets any easier," he said.
"We are asking drivers to drive to the conditions of the road, maintain safe distances and just be careful out there, it's so important. With the tragic loss of another person this morning we have another grieving family who will miss that loved one."
Diversions were in place while both lanes of the highway were shut.
Southbound motorists were being diverted onto Bungendore Road in Bungendore, then onto Macs Reef Road, the Federal Highway, Sutton Road, then onto Yass Road in Queanbeyan East.
Northbound motorists were being told to take Yass Road onto Sutton Road, then the Federal Highway, Macs Reef Road and then Bungendore Road onto Bungendore.
Icy conditions caused plenty of drama on Canberra's roads on Wednesday morning, with authorities also attending a five-car pile-up on Majura Road near Tambreet Street.
Tuesday night's storm also kept emergency services busy, with one driver crashing into a fallen tree.
