Many Canberrans were melting in joy at the snow sweeping the city on Wednesday morning, after a strong, gusty cold front brought cold winds and snow to the capital, and kept emergency services busy.

While the overnight low remained above freezing at 1 degree, heavy winds helped the apparent temperature reach minus 7.5 degrees in the early morning.
But the cold didn't deter buzzing snow-lovers from taking to social media to express excitement at the white flurries sprinkling onto yards, cars and hills.
Some users reported being torn between playing in the snow or being late for work.
Bureau forecaster Olenka Duma said snow had settled at Canberra airport at 5am on Wednesday morning and that it was likely to stop falling by late morning.
"You might still see a few centimetres on the higher peaks of brindabellas, but in the Canberra suburbs themselves, it is looking less likely later on, although you will some showers about this morning," Ms Duma said.
"There are likely only few hours to enjoy it."

The snow arrived after days of anticipation.
On Monday, Weatherzone meteorologist Tristan Meyers said there was a slim chance snow could reach Canberra's suburbs on Wednesday. He predicted it would fall to 1000 metres on Tuesday and likely 800 metres on Wednesday, while the bureau forecast it could fall as low as 600 metres on Wednesday
There was a severe weather warning in place in the region for much of Wednesday, but it was lifted about 4.30pm.
Ms Duma said winds of 50 kilometres an hour were forecast for Canberra and could possibility reach 70 kilometres later in the day.
"The worst winds have likely yet arrived, but there will be an easing trend this afternoon and evening," she said.
"The temperatures will continue to feel below freezing with the cold winds."
