Soaking rain has helped to finally snuff out a waste fire which has been burning in Canberra's east for more than a week.

The pallet and rubbish fire in Pialligo was extinguished about 3am on Monday after a marathon effort by firefighters.
The fire, believed to have been caused by sparks and embers from onsite machinery, had been burning since April 28.
About 5000 square metres in size at its peak, contractors with heavy machinery broke the piles down into several smaller piles to enable firefighters to wet down the flames.
An ACT Emergency Services Agency spokesman said the rain was the coup de grace to the fire after firefighters brought the blaze to its knees.
The rain brought less joy to motorists, with the Monday morning commute further marred by multiple crashes and slow-moving traffic city-wide.
One man in his 60s was taken to Canberra Hospital after a single-car crash which closed Owen Dixon Drive at the roundabout with William Slim Drive in McKellar about 8.20am.
Another person was taken to hospital in a stable condition on Sunday after their car slammed into a tree off the Gundaroo Drive Barton highway exit at Crace.
Southside residents were also hit hard with 15 SES callouts, mostly in the Woden and Tuggeranong areas on Sunday.
The most common complaints were leaking roofs and damaged fittings.
