ACT Brumbies winger Henry Speight is preparing to fly back to Australia for surgery on a fracture above his left eye that is set to make walking through metal detectors a nightmare for the rest of his life.
He's got teammate and Brumbies co-captain Christian Lealiifano to thank after the pair clashed heads in the loss to the Cape Town Stormers last weekend.
Both were trying to tackle a Stormers player when they collided, and Speight had to be taken from the field.
The flying Fijian, who was supposed to join the Australian sevens team in camp next week, posted a picture of the fracture on Twitter before flying home.
The scan image of Speight's skull shows a massive crack above his eye, that will likely require a metal plate. He will be out for 4-8 weeks.
Speight was cleared to fly home and will meet surgeons to assess the damage.
The Brumbies play the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Sunday morning (AEDT).
Lausii Taliauli, Robbie Abel and Ita Vaea have been flown to South Africa as reinforcements for Speight, Josh Mann-Rea (suspended) and Jarrad Butler (knee injury).
