WA is in a powerful position after the opening day of their Futures League match, going to stumps on Monday at 3-451.
Opener Will Bosisto carried his bat for a magnificent 157, while Darcy Short and Hilton Cartwright upped the run rate with 134 and 119 respectively.
Comets paceman Cameron Suidgeest claimed 2-85 from 16 overs while Mitch Phelps was the other successful bowler with 1-66 from 21 overs.
Before the start of play, former Comets batsman Cade Brown presented debutants Mac Wright and Kerrod Brown with their ACT caps.
The Comets are missing several experienced stars, with player/coach Aidan Blizzard (Sydney Thunder) and batsman Jono Dean (Adelaide Strikers) away on Big Bash commitments, all-rounder Blake Dean is sidelined with a shoulder injury and youngster Henry Hunt is with the Australian under-19 squad in Dubai.
The Comets will be hoping they can score as freely when it comes their turn to bat.
Play resumes at 10.30am on Tuesday.
