Police said they received a report that a man driving a green Holden Frontera in Phillip was in possession of a firearm about 1.20pm on Tuesday.
Police pulled the man's car over while driving on Pockett Street in Banks and later seized a BB pellet gun, which they said had been modified to look like a firearm, at a house in the same suburb.
The man will be summonsed to face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
