"[On Friday] that hot air mass just crosses the Queensland border and it doesn't get that far down, but with it we are getting the northwesterly winds so it keeps travelling down," Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Mohammed Nabi said.
"But it's not until Saturday that it starts to creep down to the western parts of the Canberra region and then on Sunday it is that hot air that is encompassing Canberra as well," he said.
Tomorrow temperatures are set to hit 30 degrees with "fresh to strong north westerly winds and a partly cloudy day," according to Mr Nabi.
It will then get even more toasty on Saturday with tops of 33 degrees expected.
"It will still be warm tomorrow and Saturday but it is not until Sunday when you start to feel it," Mr Nabi said.
On Sunday temperatures are expected to get up to a boiling 37 degrees.
But relief will come either Sunday night or Monday.
"Sunday we have possible late shower. On Monday it will cool down only relatively, with temperatures in the high 20s, and as far as any rain goes, there could be a change and showers," Mr Nabi said.
