Weston residents warned of discoloured water for next 24 hours

Residents in several Canberra suburbs are being warned of water discolouration over the next 24 hours due to water works.

Essential works are being carried out in Chapman, Rivett, Duffy and Stirling on Thursday.

An Icon Water spokeswoman said residents in those suburbs should avoid drinking, bathing or cooking with discoloured water or avoid using appliances that use large amounts of water such as dishwashers and washing machines.

"During and after the work, some residents may experience discoloured water," the spokeswoman said.

"This is due to increased water flow stirring up small amounts of sediments in the pipes."

Icon Water said water would clear back to normal within 24 hours of the repair works finishing.
