The ACT Place Names Committee usually does not make a determination until 12 months after a person's death. It also has to avoid confusion or duplication.
Hawker is named after another politician, Charles Hawker.
Maybe you could live in suburb of The Silver Bodgie?
An official response from the planning directorate on Friday read:
"As a mark of respect, it is policy to wait for a period of at least 12 months after a person has passed away before commemorating their name. The family is consulted about any commemoration proposals.
"Any future place names proposal to commemorate Mr Hawke's name in the ACT will take into consideration the existing suburb of Hawker, named in 1971 to commemorate politician and pastoralist Charles Hawker MHR, a minister in the Lyons government."
