Queanbeyan Police were alerted to the two crashes on Uriarra Road shortly before midday, one of which left a man trapped for 45 minutes.
A Holden Commodore failed to give way at the intersection with Frederick Street, colliding with a ute carrying a fridge.
The 45-year-old Queanbeyan driver of the Commodore was trapped in the vehicle for 45 minutes before being freed and transported to the Canberra Hospital with minor injuries.
His sole passenger was uninjured.
At the same time about 500 metres away near the intersection with Ross Road, a Toyota Yaris was involved in a crash.
No details on injuries have been provided for the 50-year-old Jerrabomberra driver or his passenger.
A Queanbeyan Police spokesman said Uriarra Road was closed for about two hours while rescue operations were carried out.
