Since then she has been busy completing her Year 12 exams and assessments – and celebrating a memorable 18th birthday last Sunday night at the Yarralumla Gallery and The Oaks Brasserie, the business run by her mother Mira.

The biggest surprise of the birthday party was when her older brother Nikola, 22, surprised her, making the trip from Canada where he has been on a grid iron scholarship.

The siblings had not seen each other for three years and Dajana had no idea he would be coming back to Australia to surprise her. She was thrilled.

‘‘I told him I hated him because I cried so much and ruined my make-up,’’ she said, with a laugh.

The Queanbeyan teenager will always be grateful for being on the show.

‘‘The whole experience I cannot put into one word – exciting, fantastic, adventurous, supercalifragilistic,’’ she said.

‘‘It was so rewarding and I learnt so much and I grew so much. I would do it again in an instant.’’

Dajana said her family, including dad Goran who has a painting company, put a premium on education, and she was focused on completing year 12 as best she could.

She was interested in following a career in interior design or photography but has committed to giving modelling a go next year, deferring any entry to university for 12 months.‘‘My attitude to life is everything happens for a reason and I’m happy and proud that I got as far as I did.’’

Here it is – the finished portrait of Chief Minister Katy Gallagher by Papua New Guinea artist Jeffrey Feeger.

Feeger, 30, classes himself as a performance artist, finishing portraits in two hours while watched by crowds from Shanghai to New York.

PNG High Commissioner Charles Lepani organised the portrait of Gallagher as a gift to Canberra for its centenary.

Lepani declared Gallagher to be a ‘‘shining example of a democratic leader’’and marvelled at her ‘‘political masochism’’ for submitting to regular grillings by her constituents on 666 ABC’s chief minister’s talkback.

The High Commissioner also joked that he could give her a few hints about the ACT achieving independence from the Commonwealth, as his country celebrated its 38th anniversary of independence from Australia.

Gallagher posed with the PNG traditional string bag, the bilum, around her neck as she sat for the portrait in front of a big crowd of diplomats and others at the High Commission this week.

The chief minister could not sit for long, so Feeger also worked from a photograph taken at the same time.

‘‘The fact it’s helping to contribute to the relationship between Australia and Papua New Guinea is a real honour,’’ Feeger said.

It’s yet to be determined where the portrait will be displayed.

The High Commissioner also noted that Gallagher looked fit enough to tackle the Kokoda Track and she has not dismissed the idea.

‘‘I’ve got that personality that once given a challenge, it starts mulling it over and thinks I actually have to do it,’’ she said.

There was also a chance her family would travel to PNG in any case to research the history of her adopted brother Richard who is of PNG-Chinese descent.

‘‘I might be able to align the two,’’ she said.

It is set to announce that a film crew from ‘‘Hollywood, California’’ is set to shoot a video clip for singer Vince Gelonese, pictured below, who is apparently from Canberra.

The unusual press release says his song Every Dream made the top 5 of Billboard Magazine’s contemporary adult chart.

Lake Burley Griffin is set to feature in the clip, as well as other locations, the release says. Hmmm.

The ‘‘Life. Be in it.’’ healthy living campaign is one of those great emblems of the late 1970s and early 1980s in Australia.

And it wasn’t all about Norm.

The National Museum of Australia has recently acquired a set of ‘‘Life. Be in it’’ posters and badges featuring ‘‘Aunty Ivy’’ who promised gardening as a fun, rewarding, form of exercise.

The collection also includes material relating to the woman who inspired the character, Sydney gardening personality Ivy Lovric, who was born in Young.

And it seemed a good idea to bring one of the posters out of the vault for the opening weekend of Floriade, particularly as Lovric did some promotional work at Canberra’s celebration of spring.
