A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said the man has suffered serious injuries, possibly internal, and remains on the scene at this time.
The woman’s injuries are less serious and she is being transferred to the Canberra Hospital by ambulance.
An ambulance rescue helicopter is on the scene, along with NSW Police and the ACT fire brigade.
Police closed one of two southbound lanes on the highway as the fire brigade worked to rescue the couple, and a police spokesperson was unable to confirm whether the lane had been reopened.
The SouthCare rescue helicopter was initially called to respond, but has since been retasked to Alpine Way, Khancoban after a motor bike accident.
