Alexander Cameron, 19, was convicted of holding up the Hackett IGA at gun point in March last year.
Cameron and a co-offender stormed into the supermarket wearing masks and gloves.
Cameron, then 18, held a .303 bolt-action repeating rifle at staff, and swore and threatened them in front of six customers, including a nine-year-old girl and her mother.
‘‘Give us all your f---ing money,’’ he said.
‘‘Do you think we're joking? This is a hold-up,’’ he said.
Staff handed over $1300, which was placed in a plastic shopping bag held by Cameron’s co-offender.
The pair fled the store and as they got into a stolen Subaru Impreza, Cameron pointed the gun at three people nearby, saying ‘‘don't look or I'll f---ing kill you’’.
Cameron maintained the gun was not loaded, and the court heard no evidence to suggest it was.
The stolen Subaru was later found in Kaleen, and a glove with DNA matching Cameron was retrieved.
Police executed a search warrant at Cameron’s mother's house in Hackett where he was staying.
They found ammunition and clothing matching that was worn during the robbery.
Cameron eventually admitted to robbing the supermarket.
ACT Supreme Court Justice John Burns sentenced Cameron to two years and three months in jail over the aggravated robbery and for riding as a passenger in the stolen car.
He has already spent in time in custody, and the total sentence will expire in October 2014. Cameron is eligible for parole in July this year.
