On a June evening nearly 50 years ago, the photographer for Kay Cameron and Trevor Bennett's wedding forgot to turn up.

It was June 6, 1970. The photographer was supposed to meet them at Kay's home in Torrens Street. He did - just the next day.
In the meantime, Kay and Trevor got on with getting married at St Patrick's Church in Braddon, at six that evening. The church was on Cooyong Street and The Canberra Times was then just up the road, on the Mort Street intersection.
The savvy driver of their hire car suggested heading down to The Canberra Times and asking a staff photographer to take their wedding photos. "So there they were, in full wedding rig, parading across Cooyong Street," the newspaper reported the next day.
And, needless to say, their wedding photo, complete with the Mobil service station sign in the background, ended up on the front page.
"We thought they were just taking our photo," Kay, now 71, said. "And when we got up the next morning, there it is."
When The Canberra Times revisited that front page earlier this month for our Times Past section, Kay contacted us to say thank you and report that, after 49 years, she and Trevor, 72, were still happily married.
The Gowrie couple was glad to recreate the picture last week, looking forward to their 50th wedding anniversary next year, which they will celebrate with a holiday in Fiji.
They have three children, six grandchildren and one great-grandson, "with another on the way".
The couple met when they both worked for Defence. Trevor was in catering in the army and Kay did office work.
"We met in the lift," he said, with a twinkle in his eye.
The couple went on postings, including to Darwin, before settling back in Canberra 34 years ago.
For Trevor, their marriage has been "like an adventure".
And after the adventure of their wedding, they do feel a special affection for The Canberra Times.
"We get it delivered every day," she said.
Another consequence of that wedding shot from 1970 on the front page? Trevor fronted up to Mobil the day after the wedding and "got a free tank of petrol".
