Quizzic Alley in Fyshwick is leaving no philosopher's stone unturned to create "a magical and immersive dining experience, complete with a three-course banquet fit for a dragon, live entertainment, a costume parade and more ravenclawesome photo ops than you can poke a wand at".
Owner of the Harry Potter-themed store, Nearly Legless Mick, aka Michael Milton, promises it will be a great night, full of magic and wonder.
"If you've been to Quizzic Alley, you will know what to expect of The Great Wizard's Ball. I solemnly swear there will be loads of really cool, magical activities and acts. And the venue is amazing," Mick said.
The Abbey at Gold Creek, with its huge gothic-looking organ, is the perfect setting for The Great Wizard's Ball on Saturday, August 31, when the fun starts at 7pm.
Shaun Andrews, aka the Great Wizard Gruntlesmith ("Don't be disgruntled, be gruntled"), with his booming voice, will help Mick MC on the night.
All profits from The Great Wizard's Ball will be donated to The Smith Family's children's literacy program.
"A book pack for a child from an under-privileged family costs $20 and can make all the difference to their learning capabilities when they start school," Mick said.
Early Owl tickets are on sale now but the discounted price ends on August 17. Book a table of eight witches, wizards and magical creatures for a further discount.
And the kids don't miss out either. There is an afternoon-tea style family-friendly, version of The Great Wizard's Ball from 3pm. Tickets at https://www.quizzicalley.com
Mick said since the shop opened in September last year, there had been an emphasis on in-house events. The ball was their first out into the big wide world.
"People can expect on the night magic, atmosphere, surprises, a whole group of people with the love for our theme," he said.
It wasn't the first time adult fans had been targeted. Quizzic Alley regularly holds birthday parties for adults, as well as children.
"I've had 40ths, I had one last week, I've had 60ths," Mick said.
"It's certainly one of the strengths of our theme. When I see my kids' primary school Book Week parade, it's like a third are Harry Potter characters. But there are also lots of very committed adult fans out there.
"I think we've seen seven different organisations this year run trivia nights based on the Harry Potter theme."
The menu for the night is still under wraps but Mick says expect to be wowed.
"There will be some pretty amazing food on the night," he said.
"I'm quite excited. I know most of the menu and I shouldn't say much but the sherbet lemon meringue pies are something that caught my eye. There's some pumpkin stuff. There's some quite traditional English food as well."
Mick said, ultimately, everything was inspired by the love of reading and that was why it was important to contribute to The Smith Family's children's literacy program, which Quizzic Alley would be supporting for the next 12 months.
"If kids have access to books, their imaginations run wild. As ours do when come to work each day," he said.
