With the ACT government set to redevelop EPIC, MLAs Suzanne Orr and Deepak-Raj Gupta will pass a motion in the Assembly on Wednesday calling on the government to explore adding a purpose-built space for multicultural events.
The government would report back to the Assembly in 12 months under the motion.
"Broadly speaking, what would make it appropriate would be it having space for performances," Ms Orr said.
But also a kitchen, Ms Orr said - food being a big part of any multicultural event.
ACT Telangana Association president Sateesh Reddy said venue space was tight in the capital.
"We are struggling a lot now, in fact," Mr Reddy said.
Telanganites hail from the Telangana state in India, formed in 2014. At their last event, in a 350-person venue, there was no space for people to leave and come back, Mr Reddy said.
"If they could get this sorted out quickly we will be a happy community," he said.
He said a venue suited to at least 1500 people would cater for the capital's growing multicultural communities for at least a decade.
In their motion, Ms Orr and Mr Gupta, both members for Yerrabi in Canberra's north, said Gungahlin was the most diverse region in the capital, "with 33.2 per cent of people born overseas and 33.3 per cent of people speaking a language other than English at home".
The motion said existing facilities with small capacities were in high demand.
Ms Orr said it wasn't just about helping new arrivals to Canberra maintain their roots, but about helping following generations connect with their cultural identity.
She said the capital's Polish, Croatian and Irish clubs were examples of this.
"Being multicultural and being Australian, they go hand in hand," she said.
"You celebrate your home culture but you also celebrate being Australian ... I think it's really important for us to be working on that as a government."
