The medium-paced bowler swapped her NSW Breakers outfit for the blue-and-gold cap in a bid for more game time on the domestic cricket scene.

But moving three hours down the Hume Highway was a no-brainer for the northern country girl, who hopes her lengthy experience with the Breakers' program will benefit the Meteors maiden title charge.

NSW have dominated the national league and have won 20 titles from 23 seasons, while the Meteors are looking to improve upon last season's finish.

"Going back-to-back would be the ultimate goal," Leeson said.

"Each year you're looking to build and improve. We have a great group of girls this year so I think it's definitely on the cards.

"I'm hoping to bring some experience I had with NSW, it's obviously a very good state with a very good record. Combining experiences from all different states will be very beneficial to the team."

Leeson took a wicket on her Meteors debut against Victoria on Sunday, bowling out Molly Strano with a lengthy sweep in the 30^th over.

She was one of four debutantes to play the season opener with Maitlan Brown nursing a shin injury and Angela Reakes ruled out after suffering a season-ending Achilles tendon tear.

Meteors coach David Drew had nothing but praise for the debutantes and said Leeson has been a wonderful pick up by the club.

"Carly got a wicket and fielded very well. She didn't get a chance to bat but she certainly deserves to be play in the WNCL and we're glad she's with us," Drew said.

"She's handy with the bat and really good with the ball - she basically bowls down the stumps line in a way that's hard for batters to get them away."

The Meteors are looking to claim their second straight win of the season when they play South Australia at Karen Rolton Park on Tuesday.

The Scorpions fell to reigning champions NSW Breakers in the last over on Sunday, despite Tahlia McGrath and Bridget Patterson scoring half-centuries.

"They took NSW right to the edge at Karen Bolton Oval, which looked a picture [on Sunday]," Drew said.

"They're up on the ledger and they beat us last time, but it's a different game and a different year.

"All players in the WNCL are strong. That's what makes Australian cricket competitive and such a powerhouse in world cricket, so it'll be a good game."

The second-round clash will be the final match of the opening leg, before the competition breaks for the Women's Big Bash League.

Leeson holds a contract with the Sydney Sixers but has only played three matches across three seasons in the magenta outfit.

The WNCL competition resumes on January 6, with the Meteors rounding out their campaign with four home games split across Manuka Oval and Phillip Oval.
