Lonergan will replace Wallaby Joe Powell in the No.9 jumper for the Vikings' crucial clash with Fijian Drua at Vikings Park on Saturday.
The 21-year-old scrumhalf was the leading point scorer of the competition before being omitted from the starting line up last week.
The fourth-placed Vikings are clinging to their semi-finals spot with only three games left in the regular season, while the Fijians head into the must-win clash in flying form.
The island nation scored 76 points in their round-four clash against Sydney last week, but will be playing with a point to prove if their World Cup campaign is anything to go by.
Canberra captain Darcy Swain said the Drua are "a cloud of unknown" in relation to Fiji's unsuccessful World Cup journey so far.

"Anyone in that squad is capable of being in the World Cup so maybe some of them have got a point to prove, perhaps there are some guys that want to prove they want to be in Japan," Swain said.
"Fiji are pretty dominant and have been on-and-off like us, so we have to go out there, focus on ourselves and the result will work itself out."
Vikings coach Nick Scrivener has made numerous changes to combat the physical Fijian side, with flyhalf Bayley Kuenzle to make his starting debut and Will Miller returning to the back-row.
The former Waratahs flanker will link with Wallabies Pete Samu and Rob Valetini, while Toni Pulu returns on the right wing.
"Will had good impact coming on last week and got a couple of turnovers straight away so he's on the ball quick and that's going to be important to slow down the Fijians," Scrivener said.
The round-five clash will be the first of three successive matches at Viking Park as Canberra hope to draw on home-crowd energy and finish their season on a high.
The Vikings have won two of four games but the short seven-game season means the Vikings cannot afford to lose to Fiji.
"The reality is every game is a final for us now, so that's how we're approaching it," Scrivener said.
"We're playing at home so there's no excuses. We've just got to perform now."
