Wighton's one of a number of Raiders whose contracts end next year and are now free to sign with rival clubs.
But the Green Machine have the wheels in motion to re-sign them and will look to meet with Wighton's manager Matt Rose before Christmas.
Raiders chief executive Don Furner hoped he could lock in a number of their off-contract stars before their season kicks off against the Gold Coast Titans at Canberra Stadium on March 13.
Co-captain Jarrod Croker, Nick Cotric, Wighton and Sia Soliola headline their off-contract players with pre-season preparations already under way to go one better than being this year's runners-up.
Wighton had an option for 2021 as part of his current deal, but his change in management meant he didn't take up the offer.
He's also grown as a player since that option was first penned.
The 26-year-old has switched from fullback to five-eighth, made his State of Origin and Australian debuts, and was the Clive Churchill Medallist despite the Raiders losing this year's grand final.
"I'm going to try and catch up with Jack's manager next week. I want to catch him before the Christmas break," Furner said.
"We want to work on all three of those guys and get them done before kick off - that's Jarrod, Jack and Nick, and some others too.
"They're all priorities. We know we've got a few off and we'll work through it, like we always do."

Wighton went into Blues camp in Sydney on Friday, where he was joined by fellow Raider Nick Cotric.
Raiders recruit Curtis Scott and young prop Emre Guler attended on Thursday as part of the Emerging Blues squad.
It's Wighton's second camp in a matter of days having spent last weekend attending an Indigenous leaders camp at Coolangatta on the Gold Coast.
He was invited by former Manly premiership prop George Rose.
Cody Walker, Latrell Mitchell, Ryan James and Dean Widders were also involved in the camp.
Wighton didn't want to be drawn on the national anthem debate surrounding the NRL All Stars game, preferring to let his football do the talking.
But the Raiders five-eighth said the commentary surrounding Mitchell's future with the Sydney Roosters had been ridiculous.
The Roosters withdrew a two-year extension offer to the off-contract star and he's been linked to a move to the Wests Tigers and the Gold Coast Titans.
"I think they're making a circus out of [Mitchell] in the media," Wighton said.
"He's a good kid and he's got a big future in the game, but I think what's going on at the moment is a bit unfair.
"We all respect him, we all love him and in our eyes he's a big part of our team as an Indigenous player."
