A 36-year-old Wanniassa man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a mother and driving off in a car carrying her child.

About 12.45pm on Wednesday, police received a report of a Subaru sedan with a 14-month-old child in it being taken from an address in Wanniassa following an alleged assault.
Following police inquiries, about 5.20pm the child was found safe and well at a house in Queanbeyan.
Shortly after, the 36-year-old man was also found in Queanbeyan and was arrested by ACT Police with the assistance of New South Wales Police officers.
He appeared in Queanbeyan Magistrates court on Thursday where he was extradited to the ACT.
ACT Police took custody of the man and charged him with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, two counts of common assault and one count of property damage.
A police spokesperson said: "ACT Policing deployed significant resources to locate the child and would like to acknowledge the assistance provided by NSW Police and the wider community in locating the child."
The man will appear in the ACT Magistrates court today where police will oppose bail.
