Carly Gordyn has been ordered by health authorities to quarantine herself in her Canberra home until Friday as a precaution to prevent the spread of the virus.
Health authorities revealed on Sunday a NSW man in his 40s, later revealed to be an Australian Defence Force member, was on board flights to and from Canberra while he was potentially infectious with coronavirus.
He tested positive for the virus on Saturday.
The defence force member was travelling from Sydney to attend meetings at defence headquarters in Russell.
Ms Gordyn was seated in row four on Virgin flight VA651 between Canberra and Sydney, which left Canberra at 2.35pm on Friday, February 28.
ACT Health had urged passengers seated in rows three to seven on the flight to self-isolate.
Ms Gordyn told The Canberra Times she found out about the coronavirus patient being on the flight through social media.
"I knew I was on that flight and so I looked up my boarding pass and realised I was in the rows being told to self-isolate," Ms Gordyn said.
"I didn't panic. I just wanted the facts. I have Crohn's disease and take immunosuppressants, so I was a little concerned about my own health, but more so for my family that I had just spent the weekend with."
The PhD candidate was on the flight to Sydney before a connecting flight to New Zealand.
She said she heard someone constantly coughing nearby while on the Canberra to Sydney flight.
Ms Gordyn said she had not developed any symptoms for the virus, and has had daily calls from health officials checking in for signs of the virus.
"I have two housemates at home and I was told to stay in my room and to wear a mask in communal areas and wash my hands every time I leave my room," she said.
"The housemates don't need to isolate unless I start showing symptoms.
"The nurse I spoke to said most people show symptoms in three to seven days, and it's been nine days and I'm fine."

While Ms Gordyn said she was remaining calm in self-isolation and trying to catch up on rest and Netflix, she said it was difficult not to be hyper aware of any potential symptoms.
"I have a headache today which is no doubt a result of dehydration on a long drive yesterday, and I'm wondering if there is an itch in my throat or if I'm imagining it," she said.
"I honestly think I'm fine. I have no fever or body aches and no cough at all but I am hyper alert."
There are yet to be any confirmed cases of coronavirus in Canberra as of March 9.
Nationally, there have been 80 cases of the virus, 40 of which are in NSW.
Health authorities are tracking down other passengers who were on the Virgin flight, as well as Qantas flight QF1509, which travelled from Sydney to Canberra on February 28 at 6.45am with the ADF member on board.
