Canberra Raiders recruit Curtis Scott free to travel to Auckland to play New Zealand Warriors

The Raiders centre is free to play their round two fixture against the New Zealand Warriors in Auckland on March 21.

Scott was due to appear in court for his hearing, where he's facing seven charges including two counts of allegedly assaulting a police officer, the day before the Warriors game.

But his lawyer Sam Macedone has gained him a leave of absence and he's free to travel across the Ditch.

He'll know more about how long the matter might take to conclude after that hearing.

"I've organised for him to go to Auckland. He's got the hearing on March 20, but I'll be attending that. He won't need to be there," Macedone told The Canberra Times on Monday.

"I'm trying to look after him, doing my best. Still a long way to go, but we're getting there."

Having made last year's NRL grand final, the Raiders know they've got targets on their backs and they're ready.

Their nomadic existence might help deal with that, with the Green Machine confident they'll be ready to face the Gold Coast Titans on Friday despite being forced to chop and change their training venues in recent weeks.

Canberra trained at Raiders Belconnen on Monday, with five-eighth Jack Wighton expecting that session to decide the final make-up of the bench to face the Titans.

Jack Murchie, JJ Collins or even outside back Michael Oldfield are all chances to claim the final spot in the 17 when it's named on Tuesday.

In stark contrast to the Raiders' grand final appearance, the Titans finished last in 2019 and will be one of the teams with a point to prove against the Green Machine.

Wighton was confident their moving around wouldn't impact on their preparation for the season opener.

The Raiders have been doing their gym work at their new Braddon centre of excellence, which opened on Friday, but the turf on the training pitch there won't be ready for another two weeks.

It's meant they've continued to train on the field at their old headquarters at Bruce, but with the recent rain they opted to switch across to bowling green-esque Kippax.

"I think every team this year is going to be very tough. We're going to be one of the hunted teams," Wighton said.

"We had a bit of luck and a bit of success so teams are going to be coming for us. It's going to start this Friday night.

"They've got a big pack and some fast outside backs so we're going to have to turn up."

Wighton has only played one trial with new halves partner George Williams, with the England international taking over the halfback role from the departed Aidan Sezer.

But the Clive Churchill Medallist was confident Williams has had enough time to adjust to the Raiders set-up.

Due to an extended international campaign with Great Britain, Williams only arrived in Canberra at the start of January and he's been hampered by a quad injury.

"George is pretty comfortable with all our systems and he's been training well," Wighton said.

"He's a great footballer and he picks things up fast.

"Only time will tell and we'll see how we go on Friday night, but I think we'll be fine."
