Alex Budd, who took on the role this year, said he had four good weeks then had to shut the centre down, cancel or move thousands of tickets, then find a way to creatively engage with the audience.
If he had known that would happen, he said, "I might have quickly turned and run away".
But, he didn't, and on Tuesday the initiative CTC@Home was launched.
This happened after the theatre staff observed how other streaming programs worked and when they were able to organise artists and technicians to participate. There has also been a streaming program on the centre's website with content from Australian and international artists.
"Canberrans can look forward to eight weeks of special programming with performances from over 25 local professional artists," Mr Budd said.
The initiative - free to viewers - has been supported by a $10,000 ACT government grant as well as money from the centre's programming fund to help support local professional artists.
The first week begins on Monday, June 15, with Kids in the House - a song and dance program featuring local children's show The Joe Boogie Show.
This will be followed by Chapter the First, a live reading of the first chapter of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby by local playwright and performer Christopher Samuel Carroll.
On Wednesday, June 17, musician Kim Yang will play her own compositions of folk, pop, and blues and then and Roll for Intelligence with Joel Barcham, a role-playing game featuring live musical accompaniment.
Friday, June 19, begins with a music performance featuring local DJ Jemist, followed by a reading of The Camel by Canberran playwright Dylan Van Der Berg.
The final event on Friday is the CTC@Home headline variety program The World From Here With Chris Endrey.
Also coming up are play readings, contemporary music by artists including Maret and D'Opus and a Music at Midday concert.
Mr Budd said he was not sure when the theatre would be able to reopen and resume its regular season, some of which would be rescheduled, but hoped it would happen before the end of the year.
