The Raiders have been dealt massive injury blow after massive injury blow over the past three weeks with their forward pack decimated.

The loss of co-captain and star hooker Josh Hodgson (knee) in the loss to Melbourne was the latest casualty for the Green Machine as they prepare to face the Roosters at the SCG - the first time they will meet since last year's NRL grand final.

They're also without Corey Horsburgh (foot), John Bateman (shoulder), Sia Soliola (face) and Emre Guler (ankle).

Raiders winger Bailey Simonsson (shoulder) also faces season-ending shoulder surgery after a partial dislocation.

But Raiders co-captain Jarrod Croker said the Roosters were in the same injury boat.

They've lost young guns Victor Radley and Sam Verrills to season-ending knee injuries, while winger Daniel Tupou (ankle) will also be out.

Hooker Jake Friend (concussion) is in doubt, along with winger Brett Morris (groin).

"We've lost a couple, picking away at our forward pack really," Croker said.

"The last couple of weeks with Corey, Emre and Sia and now Josh might be out for a little bit of time now as well.

"It's backs against the wall. We're not the only team with injuries. It's survival of the fittest at the moment.

"There's so many players going down with big injuries. Every team is getting injuries. I don't know what it is, but it's going to be last man standing I think."

Croker was unsure of why they were suffering what Raiders coach Ricky Stuart labelled the worse injury toll he's experience during his 18-year coaching career.

But he felt, from a Raiders perspective at least, it was unrelated to the two-month break during the coronavirus lockdown.

He said most of their injuries were collision ones and weren't related to the enforced lay-off.

"I think ours have been bad luck. Like Sia's face - that's not a thing with the break," Croker said.

"Hodgo's one of the fittest blokes I know - it wouldn't be the break with him.

"Emre and Corey were both contact so I don't think with us it's been that.

"We were really happy with how we came out of the break. We had a lot of testing in that first couple of weeks.

"We were fit, we played like we were fit after the break so I don't think that's been an issue for us, but I can't speak for other injuries.

"There's been a lot of knees and soft tissues and it's hard to put it down to one thing, but it's been tough."
