The brave fans set up a makeshift tent made out of canvas and attached to the wall at the Raiders Leagues Club in Mawson. The Canberra Times featured a photo of Darren and Brooke Ely, of Holt, Ian Kelly, of Lyneham, and Amanda Medway and Ross Kelly, of Charnwood.
It would be worth the extra effort to score tickets, as the Raiders won the grand final that year with a final score of 18-14 in the match against the Penrith Panthers.
Also on the front page, was news that work would soon begin on a former Canberra Times site.
Concrete Constructions building development manager, Bob Westman, said a new lease had been obtained and registered for the site.
It was understood around $1 million was paid. Equivalent to around $2 million today.
The company expected to obtain design and siting approval by the end of July. "It will then take us about six months before we are ready to start work," Westman said. "We plan to start at the end of January and the building is due to be completed by November 1992.
Plans for the building provided for a ground floor and six upper levels. The gross floor area of the building would be 16,000 square metres, including 1000 square metres of retail space.
