They came from behind to knock off the Melbourne Aces 8-4 at Narrabundah Ballpark on Boxing Day.
The Cavalry piled on five runs in the bottom of the eight inning and then Steve Kent closed out the win for the home side.
It's been a far from ideal preparation for the men in orange - their imports only got out of quarantine during the past week and their series in Perth against the Heat last weekend was postponed due to the WA government border restrictions.
Not to mention the player and coaching staff revolt just days before the start of the ABL season that led to former Cavalry chief executive Donn McMichael stepping down.
Plus they don't know who or when they're playing next due to the chaos caused by the Sydney coronavirus cluster.
The Cavalry started well, jumping out to a 2-0 lead - including a homer from foundation Canberra slugger Donald Lutz, who's on loan from the Brisbane Bandits to bolster the numbers.
A Blake Gailen three-run bomb put the visitors on top before a Boss Moanaroa solo shot levelled the scores after six.
Canberra product Kyle Perkins gave the Aces the upper hand against his former club, but the Cavalry responded and piled on the runs to start their season with a win.
They'll play the second-and-final game of their series against the Aces at The Fort on Sunday night.
