1. Tommy Little
Well it took a while but here we are - just a few days before comedian Tommy Little appears with his latest show, I'll See Myself Out, at the Canberra Theatre Centre this weekend. The comedy show - which was among the many things postponed in 2020 - will see no topic untouched or off-limits, with Little set to reveal his foolish and hilarious real-life antics and setbacks for the entertainment of the audience. Saturday, 5.30pm. Canberra Theatre Centre. Tickets are $49.90 from canberratheatrecentre.com.au.
2. Catch Jazida
There's a thief on the run ... but she's unlike any other you've ever encountered. Catch Jazida is a multisensory experience that merges burlesque and theatre. It follows Jazida as she flees through every speakeasy, cabaret club, circus tent and burlesque bar in town after she was accused of stealing a large sum of money. Can you crack the case before the detective captures her? Friday, 8pm and Saturday, 2pm and 8pm. Canberra Theatre Centre. Tickets are $33 fromcanberratheatrecentre.com.au.
3. If these walls could talk
The National Film and Sound Archive building has had many lives. Zoo. Institute of Anatomy. Morgue. Cutting-edge preservation facility. Learn about the many roles the building has had over the years and the interesting (and at times disturbing) history that has taken place within its walls. Following the talk, grab a map and take a 15-minute, self-guided walk and see the highlighted features up close and personal. Friday, 10.30am. National Film and Sound Archive. Tickets are free but go to nfsa.gov.au to reserve a spot.
4. Queanbeyan Kids Market
Here's one for the kids these school holidays. Along with the usual monthly Queanbeyan Market is a special kids market. Come for the handcrafted decor and homegrown produce, then stay a little longer for the play dough and slime jars. There will also be a stall by Rainbowtopia that will see you create your own tie-dye creation. Bring along a T-shirt, singlet, shorts or skirt and give it the tie-dye treatment. Items should be washed in warm water and spun on low and brought to the markets still damp. Don't forget a plastic bag to bring your creation home again. Sunday, from 9am to 2pm. Tie-dying from 10am to 1pm. Town Park.
5. Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles
And now one for those who are still kids at heart. It's been 30 years since the first live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie came out and it's time to celebrate with a pizza party and, of course, a screening of the film on the big screen. Saturday, 6.30pm. Limelight Cinema. Tickets are $20 from limelightcinemas.com.au and come with a pizza.
