Sutton picked up the injury in the Green Machine's gutsy 12-10 win over the Parramatta Eels, although he was able to come back onto the field for a second stint before being replaced by young centre Matthew Timoko.

The Englishman has had a tough time with injuries during his three seasons in Canberra, missing last year's finals series with a knee problem.

Raiders enforcer Josh Papalii (concussion) will go through concussion protocols this week to be able to play the Newcastle Knights at Lang Park on Saturday.

He slammed his head into the ground while making a tackle and only played eight minutes against the Eels.

The injury news could be tempered by the return of a raft of Raiders from injury, including five-eighth Jack Wighton (ribs).

Canberra co-captain Elliott Whitehead (shoulder), prop Corey Horsburgh (wrist), outside back Bailey Simonsson (toe) and prop Dunamis Lui (calf) could all come into the selection mix when Raiders coach Ricky Stuart names his team on Tuesday.

The Raiders have won their past three games - the first time they've managed the feat this season - as they prepare to take on the struggling Knights, who were one of a number of Canberra's rivals for the top eight.

Canberra sit eighth on the NRL ladder, although that could change depending on the results of the St George Illawarra and Cronulla games on Sunday, with Newcastle one win and points differential behind the Green Machine.

They've lost their past two games against the Knights.

"We've just got the protocols we've got to follow in regards to HIA with Josh," Stuart said on ABC Radio on Saturday.

"He'll probably have a secondary test come the middle of the week.

"I think Ryan Sutton's probably a week or two weeks out with a chest injury."

Stuart said his team had handled hub life well, winning both games since moving to the Gold Coast - including their massive win over the Eels.

It's seen them put a tough three months, where they only won two of 11 games, behind them to return to finals contention.

Stuart said they were waiting to find out when the players' partners and families would be able to join them in camp.

It was hoped that would be at the end of the week when the players completed their two weeks' quarantine.

"It certainly does [suit us]. The boys have warmed to the environment, the situation that we're in," Stuart said.

"The boys have handled it very well. They've been very professional towards the preparation.

"Last night we had a bit of a kangaroo court, a trivia night and a few beers.

"It's been good, the boys have handled it very well."
