Rappel is accused of murdering his former partner, Tara Costigan, earlier this year.
Rappel, 40, allegedly forced his way into a Calwell home before killing Ms Costigan with an axe.
The case appeared before the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The defence and prosecution asked for an adjournment to allow for additional parts of the brief of evidence to be given to Rappel's lawyers.
The case will return in mid-July. It is expected it will be committed to the ACT Supreme Court on that day.
