Tourism Australia has praised Canberra woman Carol Elvin for her efforts to present Canberra in the best light - and have her images shared by millions on its Instagram account.

Chloe Knight-Gregson, Tourism Australia's social media producer, said Carol was among the army of social media users promoting the nation with that perfect shot.
"We often talk at Tourism Australia about having the largest social media team in the world, thanks to the many passionate Australians who share just amazing content with us. Carol is one of those unsung heroes, a real gem," Chloe said.
"She doesn't have any formal training as a photographer, but is passionate about Canberra and has developed a real knack for capturing the city and surrounds in ways that really resonate with our followers.
"Her shots stand out amongst the thousands submitted to us every day because they so perfectly capture what every season in Canberra represents.
"On her Instagram profile you'll find snapshots of kangaroos posing in the mist on frosty winter mornings, trees bright with autumn hues lining Lake Burley Griffin, and colourful summer sunsets from the top of Mount Ainslie.
"She calls then 'simple snaps', but several of her photos have gone on to be shared with over 2.5 million of our Instagram followers. Not bad for a hobby."
Carol's shot of the start of Canberra Balloon Spectacular this week had already attracted more than 86,000 likes on Tourism Australia's Instagram page.
For her part, Carol was a little taken back by the praise. Her joy is simply to share her stunning images.
The retired high school PE teacher from Yarralumla, who also had her own fashion business and worked in real estate, reckons scenes from our national capital are worth a wider audience.
"Canberra is so beautiful and our seasons are outstanding and I try to capture it in its most favourable light," she said.
"I still think it's a relatively unnoticed or undiscovered city and we're lucky to live here. I think, 'Why not put it out there, loud and proud?'."
