'It didn't seem real': 20 year old describes horrifying carjacking

Gina Davidson said she had finished her shift at Subways's Erindale restaurant when a woman approached her car about 9pm.

"I was sitting in my car sending a message to my manager about stuff the next day and as I sent the message, this woman just opened my door and told me to get out," Ms Davidson told The Canberra Times.

"At first I was just shocked, it didn't seem real at first. But then when she said 'get out again' I realised that this was actually serious - like if you don't do what she says then I'm going to get hurt."

Ms Davidson said she jumped out of the car and sprinted to a nearby petrol station. When she looked back for her car, it was gone.

"I was hysterical, screaming for help for someone to call the police," she said. "My phone was in my pocket and one of the ladies there called the police, and once I calmed down I managed to talk to them."

"Every shift I do at that store finishes at 9pm and I always park at the same spot and I've never had any issues before."

Ms Davidson said her father and boss quickly arrived at the scene, before she was taken to the local police station to make an official report.

ACT Policing were on Friday afternoon calling for witnesses to the incident, which occurred on Denigan Street.

The suspect was described as a young woman, about 175 centimetres tall with blonde hair that was tied in a ponytail.

The stolen vehicle was a bright pink 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage with registration YKT52Y.

Ms Davidson, who works full time, said she had almost finished paying off the car, which was her first.

"I was about to hit my days off [from work] and I all I wanted to do was go home," she said. "Then all of a sudden this happens and I'm shocked."
