Flying High is an annual kite festival held at Rockley Oval in Googong that sees dozens of brightly coloured kites take to the skies.
This year's event will feature a giant jellyfish, a humpback whale, flying bunnies and piglets soaring over the ever expanding suburb just across the border.
Googong project director Malcolm Leslie said Googong was well-known for hosting community oriented events, and there was nothing different about Flying High.
"There is something special about kites that brings out the kid in us all," Mr Leslie said.
"We’re never quite sure what mythical creatures will appear on the day but its sure to be a stunning spectacle."
The festival is a perfect opportunity for dads and their children to try their hands at kite flying or just enjoy a picnic lunch and watch the show overhead.
A DJ will be providing the musical accompaniment and the Boss Burgers gourmet food truck will be on hand serving their famous burgers. There will also be beers and a sausage sizzle available for purchase.
Flying High is a free event that will take place between 11am and 2pm on Sunday at Rockley Oval, Rockley Parade, Googong.
