PADDLEBOARDING AND POLO
Make a ceremonial journey down the Molonglo, cruising from your 2018 life to your spruced-up 2019 one on a chariot of fiberglass. Stand up paddle polo will have all the equipment you need, plus a sausage sizzle. Molonglo Reach. Friday, 5pm. More info via Facebook. $10.
JUDITH LUCY VS. MEN
If you like laughter and if you like instantly relatable stories about dating, Judith Lucy is your woman this Friday and Saturday night. She recently took a good look at her history with men - dad, colleagues and schoolmates included - and is bringing the findings to her live show Judith Lucy vs. Men. While she's noted the seats of her shows are often filled by women and gay men, don't let that stop the rest of you. The Playhouse, Civic. Friday 7.30pm, Saturday 5pm and 7.30pm. Tickets via canberratheatrecentre.com.au. $45-55.
NISHI CAROLS
You've heard of Carols in the Domain, but have you heard of carols at that rather aesthetically pleasing lobby of the Nishi building? This weekend, vocalist Tobias Cole will serenade you with youth choir Vocal Fry at Carols on the Grand Stair. Songbooks will be provided so that you might soar to those high notes, and perhaps break out into a soulful Christmas rap where appropriate. Come for a bite to eat or for a flick at Palace, and leave with the sweet sound of Christmas. Nishi Building, NewActon. Sunday, 5.15pm-6pm. Free.
CHRISTMAS IN THE PARK
I hate to keep talking about Christmas, but there's a park playdate that looks cute. While Glebe Park might give you the heebie-jeebies by night, by day, you can bring the whole family and it'll be chill. The event will have card-making, food vendors, cookie decorating, kids yoga, a music stage, backyard cricket, a rock climbing wall and slam dunk bungee with the Canberra Capitals. Bring the whole family, or even just the family members you like. Glebe Park, Civic. Sunday 10am-4pm. Program available soon via merryandbrightcbr.com.au. Free.
$5 BEERS
'Tis the season for pre-drinks. Start your night at Bleachers this December with $5 fries, $5 tap beers and $5 hot dogs, and catch a game on one of the big screens, or whatever it is that sports fans say. Bleachers Bar, Civic. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9pm - close. Book a table via bleachers.bar/contact.
