Now before the AFP started gearing up for some serious public misdemeanours, we checked and, yes, the ACT will have ONE Coles supermarket participating on the day: at Amaroo in the far north, which is bad news for anyone south of the lake still needing the mini-Pantene or mini-Potato Gems.
Good news for Gungahlin collectors, though. For anyone else prepared to make the trek, the Swap Day will be at Coles Amaroo off Horsepark Drive from 10am to 2pm on Saturday. Time to try to get rid of those 4000 VapoRubs clogging up your handbag. (Slight exaggeration.)
In a stroke of marketing genius, Coles has made 30 mini collectables of shoppers' favourite big brands.
One free mini collectable is handed over with every $30 a customer spends at Coles. Cue panicked shopping to get over that $30 line - $28.90 just doesn't cut it anymore.
Unofficial swapping has been going on in any case, in playgrounds, offices and across social media. (I can vouch for mailing a Nutella across the border into Queanbeyan.)
For some, Little Shop has been akin to the Armageddon, marking the end of civilisation as we know it and an environmental blight that is probably killing all the polar bears. Made all the more despicable because these itty-bitty landfillers were released in the midst of Coles to-and-fro over plastic bags. For others, collecting the cute-as-a-button items has been, how should we say? A. Bit.Of. Fun.
Coles goes that little step further.
"Little Shop is bringing communities together,'' a spokeswoman said.
"It's appealing to all ages and we're delighted to hear stories of friends, families, neighbours and workmates all getting together to swap, share and collect their minis.''
