Independent schools received notice late Tuesday of their federal government payments for 2018 - including how much extra money they will receive to help them transition to lower funding.

Earlier, The Canberra Times reported that independent schools set to lose out from changes to the federal government's funding model had not been told how much cash they'd receive with less than three months until the 2018 school year begins.
The Association of Independent Schools of the ACT was still working with the federal government to sort out how much money the 10 Canberra private schools facing cuts would receive earlier this week.
The cuts to annual funding come after the federal government earlier this year scrapped 27 agreements with schools and systems in favour of a single, needs-based model.
Canberra's independent school sector will receive a pooled $15 million in transition funding over 10 years and have access to about an additional millions of dollars through the national adjustment assistance fund.
Association executive director Andrew Wrigley said: "No independent school has actually attacked the integrity of the model, but they are very keen and they're very pleased that the government is listening to the more than reasonable request to say let's see how we can transition rather than be dropped off the cliff.
"They will build their business models to be able to do that."
Each school's approved provider will have to provide the federal government with a transition plan as a condition of the funding.
Canberra's Catholic schools, also facing significant cuts, will receive $36 million over 10 years with funds to be distributed by the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn's Catholic Education Office.
The government's new formula has assessed the Catholic system as receiving 116 per cent of its allocated funds - even without the transitional money.
The Catholic Education Office has argued the over-funding is evidence the assessment of need is broken, pointing to Canberra's long-standing issues with hidden disadvantage as hiding the system's true need.
Australian Education Union ACT secretary Glenn Fowler labelled Canberra's non-government schools "some of the best-funded private schools in the country".
"[Education] Minister [Simon] Birmingham made much of so-called 'special deals' in Labor's original Gonski funding plan, yet here he is making the mother of all special deals with the private sector," he said.
"$57.7 million extra to private schools to try to keep their complaints off the front page of newspapers.
"Where is the money going? Unless we are told otherwise we can only assume that it is a no-strings-attached gift of around $1 million per ACT private school in 2018."
Independent schools facing cuts include Daramalan College (28.5 per cent over 10 years), Radford College (25.8 per cent), Marist College (18 per cent) and Brindabella Christian College (17.5 per cent).
