Lucy Sugerman, 15, is through to the first 'knockout' round of The Voice and will battle against teammates Liz Conde and Brooke Schubert to progress in the competition.

Lucy had the reality show's judges in a frenzy after her 'blind audition' which aired on Channel Nine on April 30. The St Clare's College student gently strummed her guitar and gave a haunting rendition of the 1969 Bowie hit - written more than 30 years before she was born.

Three of the show's judges, including global music superstars Seal, Kelly Rowland and Boy George, begged to have Lucy on their teams, but in the end, she chose Seal as her vocal coach for her time on the show.

Lucy's audition was an emotional night for the Sugerman family, with dad Michael in tears behind the scenes at Fox Studios in Sydney.

For the episode of The Voice on Sunday night, Team Seal members Lucy, Liz and Brooke will perform as a trio, singing songs by a female Australian singer-songwriter currently experiencing huge success in the US and globally.

Liz and Brooke are stiff competition for Lucy. Both have "powerhouse" voices and sang songs by two of the world's best-known divas in their respective blind auditions. Liz made it through with Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You, while Brooke had Seal on his feet with her pitch-perfect version of Celine Dion's Taking Chances.

But Lucy will have the support of 430,000 Canberrans behind her.

"I'm just so unbelievably grateful that Canberra has responded so well to everything - I just can't believe it," Lucy said.

"It's so amazing and I just feel so lucky. I want to send out my thanks to every single person who has supported me in the competition.

"It's just so crazy to me that I just get to do what I love - sing."

The Voice airs nationally on Channel Nine on Sunday May 21 at 7.30pm.
