Scott Jamie Cole, 41, had been set to fight allegations he killed Jason Hollingshed, 46, after the pair argued at Stuart Flats in Griffith on February 29 last year.

His planned trial was scrapped on Thursday when he stood before Chief Justice Helen Murrell in the ACT Supreme Court and instead said: "Yes, I am guilty."

Police found Mr Hollingshed's body when they were called to the apartment block on Light Street about 4.30pm.

Cole was arrested at the scene and charged with murder.

Few details have emerged about the deadly stabbing and a police statement of facts, setting out the case against Cole, has not yet been tendered in court.

Cole's barrister, Steven Whybrow, said there were some matters in the 19-page draft document outlining the allegations that were disputed or, he argued, might not need to be included in the final document.

The case will return to court for any necessary debate over those matters, and for sentencing proceedings, in June.

Cole initially pleaded not guilty several weeks after the killing and was later committed to stand trial in the higher court.

He has appeared in court's directions list on several occasions when he admitted he was having trouble securing legal representation.

Prosecutors described him as "extremely violent and dangerous" during an earlier appearance in the Magistrates Court, when concerns were expressed about his mental state.
