The controversial upgrade designed to reduce traffic congestion on the Barton Highway has drawn a lot of criticism on social media, so The Canberra Times put the new nine-light roundabout to the test.

The complicated new traffic set-up has drivers stop in the middle of the roundabout at the intersection of the Barton Highway, Gundaroo Drive and William Slim Drive.
The Canberra Times senior producer, Kyle Mackey-Laws, made his first attempt to navigate the roundabout in the week before Christmas, and the result? He wants to see an overpass.
"Gungahlin obviously is such a big town centre now and keeps growing and residents have seen this before," he said.
"We had the Gungahlin Drive Extension down Caswell Drive which was an ill-thought through process, they built a single lane motorway and within a couple of months they had to duplicate that. Why not get rid of the roundabout?"
Time will tell if the upgrade will work to improve traffic on the highway or would still need a flyover in the future.
