Belot, 27, was nominated in the text-based journalism category for his work exposing the Australian Defence Forces use of the antimalarial drug mefloquine.
Soldiers interviewed by Belot revealed their harrowing pyschological damage suffered as a side effect of the drug.
His reporting revealed the drug was given to the soldiers for at least 14 years after Defence first became concerned about its serious side effects.
It is the first time Belot has been nominated for the prestigious award that recognises the best emerging talent of the new generation of journalists.
