Friends of a man who was fatally bashed at his Phillip unit say he hid drugs and cash in his home, had up to 30 visitors a day, carried weapons for self-defence, and had been robbed in the past.

The trial of Danny Klobucar, 27, for the murder of Miodrag Gajic, 71, continued in the ACT Supreme Court on Tuesday, where the court heard from those who had found Mr Gajic's body.
Mr Gajic suffered blunt force trauma at his front door on New Year's Day in 2014, and the Crown alleges Mr Klobucar was responsible.
It is alleged that Mr Klobucar went to buy cannabis from Mr Gajic on December 30, and then came back on New Year's Day to kill him.
He is then alleged to have dragged Mr Gajic's body back into the hallway, taken his phone, and left a bloody footprint at the scene.
Mr Klobucar wrote a letter to a psychiatrist outlining his version of events, saying Mr Gajic had been dead when he got there, and that he had panicked, grabbing his phone with the intention of calling police, but deciding against it because he feared becoming a suspect.
On Tuesday, one of Mr Gajic's friends gave evidence of attending the scene immediately after his body was found.
She was asked about Mr Gajic selling cannabis, and said that she was aware of it, but that it was none of her business.
But the woman told the court up to roughly 30 visitors generally visited Mr Gajic's house per day.
"There was quite a bit of traffic there during the day," she said.
"That's why I didn't like going there during the day."
She said she knew of him being robbed twice, and said he generally carried a knife and a garden tool with him for protection.
Cannabis was hidden in pots and pans in a cupboard, as well as in a hallway cupboard next to the entrance, she said.
The woman also remembered that Mr Gajic had cash lying around the house.
She said he generally only opened the security door to those he knew well. The court has previously heard evidence that Mr Klobucar had only met him once, on December 30.
Later on Tuesday, the jury was shown a video of the crime scene, filmed by police.
A second friend and neighbour of Mr Gajic confirmed that he had been robbed three to four months before his death.
He said Mr Gajic had stabbed the intruder. The robber, he said, was then seen in the complex again two months before Mr Gajic's death.
That man also gave evidence of seeing a six foot tall man with black hair at the complex about 11.45am on New Year's Day.
The Crown, represented by prosecutor Mark Fernandez, is alleging that Mr Klobucar had a tendency to be obsessive about paedophiles, being suspicious of and aggressive to older men.
They say he remarked on December 30 that Mr Gajic's car was a "gay car", and that the man must be a paedophile and have a DVD of him.
Mr Fernandez used his opening address last week to point to the bloody footprint, which matched a Puma sports shoe found in the accused's car.
The Crown alleges allege he used Mr Gajic's phone to call two people he knew, who had never been dialled from that phone before.
The defence, led by John Purnell, SC, and Ray Livingston, is relying on a defence of mental impairment, in the event that the jury find Mr Klobucar was the killer.
The trial continues before Justice Hilary Penfold on Wednesday.
