The mother of a murder accused says she begged police to help her mentally ill son a day before he allegedly killed a Canberra man who he was convinced was a paedophile.

The third day of the ACT Supreme Court trial of Danny Klobucar, 27, saw his mother give evidence, telling a jury of her son's deteriorating mental state in December 2013.
Mr Klobucar is accused of murdering Miodrag Gajic, 71, at the front door of his Phillip unit on New Year's Day, 2014.
The Crown allege Mr Klobucar bashed Mr Gajic to death, before dragging his body back inside the hallway, and leaving.
Mr Klobucar is relying on a defence of mental impairment, and also denies responsibility for the murder.
The majority of the evidence heard so far this week has been tendency evidence, or evidence that the Crown is calling to prove that Mr Klobucar had a tendency to be obsessed with paedophiles, was suspicious that men older than him were child molesters, and became aggressive or violent toward such people.
Mr Klobucar, the court has heard, believed he was an undercover police agent, working to uncover paedophile rings.
He became convinced Mr Gajic was a paedophile after going to his home and seeing that he owned a hatchback car.
On Friday afternoon, Mr Klobucar's mother gave evidence that she had become concerned about her son's state of mind, beginning to fear for her and her family's safety.
She said Mr Klobucar became convinced that her partner was a paedophile.
The court heard her son was sending her texts in late December, claiming he was an undercover agent working for the police, and telling her to stop hiding a known paedophile.
She wrote to him: "You need help son."
She sent another text that read: "You're sick. Stop it you need help."
A disturbance at her home on New Year's Eve, a day before the killing, forced her to call triple zero for help.
She told the operator her son was threatening violence, and was going to kick the door down.
"He's delusional, he's getting worse," she told the triple-zero operator.
"He's out the front. He's just so volatile."
"I think he's got schizophrenia ... he's getting worse."
Police told her they would see what "we can send out for you", but no help had arrived 40 minutes later.
That prompted Mr Klobucar's mother to go the police station.
Mr Klobucar's barrister John Purnell, SC, asked her: "And the police did nothing?"
She replied: "Yes."
After his arrest, Mr Klobucar spent a considerable amount of time in the mental health unit at Canberra Hospital.
His mother went to visit him, but said he was still delusional, believing he was under video and audio surveillance.
The trial resumes before Justice Hilary Penfold on Monday.
