William and Charlotte were ruled the most popular baby names in the ACT in 2015, according to a list released by Access Canberra on Monday.
Of the 5586 babies registered in the ACT in 2015, 58 were named William and 42 named Charlotte.
This year's suite of traditional names could reflect our renewed affection for the royal family thanks to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, an Access Canberra spokesman said.
"Perhaps as a result of a rise in the popularity of the young royals, parents of baby boys appear to have a preference for names of English royalty, with William, James, George and Henry, and at a stretch Charlie, all in the top 10," he said.
For Higgins parents Katherine and Chris Klefisch, the decision to name her four-month-old baby William was personal.
"I named him after my grandfather, who passed away four years ago," Mrs Klefisch said.
"I like unique names as well as simple ones, but I always think that it is important to choose a name that suits an adult as well as a baby."
The enduring popularity of the classic name, meaning "strong-willed warrior" began after the Norman conquest of England in 1066, whereas Charlotte is of French origin and means "free man" or "petite".
For girls, Olivia and Zoe came equal second in terms of popularity with Ava rounding out the top three.
Ava is more of a newcomer in Canberra baby names. It has also been rising in popularity around the globe, with stars Reese Witherspoon, Hugh Jackman and Lleyton Hewitt choosing it for their daughters.
However, Rachael Stuart, from Ngunnawal, was not aware of many other Canberrans opting for the name when she picked it for their little one, born in March last year.
"I randomly woke up and decided that my baby was an Ava. I liked it and it stuck," she said.
"I don't know anyone older with the name Ava ... not many babies either. But I like simple names, and when I think of an Ava I picture a very calm, pretty, happy girl."
It is the second year Olivia has come in second, and Zoe has reappeared in the top 10 after almost a decade.
Oliver was the second-most popular name for boys followed by Jack and James in equal third.
These three names made the top five last year as well, but Alexander has overtaken Lachlan.
Max and Oscar made the boy's top 10 for the first time in 2015.
It's the 14th year in a row William has made the boy's top 10 and the second year running it has topped the list. William was also the eighth-most popular boy's name in 1950.
Charlotte entered the top 10 in 2003 and has undulated in popularity before settling at top spot this year.
Canberra is fairly on par with Australia's most popular baby names. Researchers McCrindle found the top five female baby names for 2014 (in order) were Olivia, Charlotte, Mia, Ava and Amelia. For boys they were Oliver, William, Jack, Noah and Jackson/Jaxon/Jaxson.
