A self proclaimed "fanatic whale photographer" has snapped one of the season's most stunning humpback photos, thanks to a cavorting whale willing to pose.

Eden local Erich Shutte was aboard a Freedom Charters vessel on Monday, November 9, when the wonderful meet up between man and ocean leviathan occurred.
"There were plenty of dolphins and seals around, but at the beginning we did have problems finding whales," Mr Shutte said.
"In the end we joined the Cat Balou, which had found a pod of whales one or two kilometres outside the entrance to Twofold Bay. No sooner had we arrived, the whales started to play."
Mr Shutte took a position at the bow and fired off a series of photos using his Canon 70D camera with a 70 to 300mm lens.
"The whale was so close the lens was backed down to 70mm," Mr Shutte said.
Richard Buckingham is skipper for the Freedom Charters' vessel "Connemara" and saw all the action.
"It was a humpback mother and calf, and we followed them for about one kilometre until the calf, which is about two years old, starting breaching right in front of the boat."
"I said to Erich last time you came you didn't see anything and now this time a whale is breaching right in front of the boat! The boat actually got wet with the splash."
