The Canberra Institute of Technology's ageing Woden campus could close its doors as early as 2017 while its several hundred students and 100 staff are shuffled to other campuses.

The news ended speculation about the future of CIT Woden following last month's announcement of the location of CIT's new $10.7 million campus in Tuggeranong.
CIT chief executive Leanne Cover said students' learning styles and preferences had changed, with many now choosing flexible or part-time study, meaning they were in classrooms less.
"Campus modernisation is about upgrading our facilities and learning environments across all our locations to meet our learners' needs, including increasing CIT capability," she said.
Students will be able to move to other CIT locations from next year.
Nursing and children's services training will join CIT's health courses at CIT Bruce in the middle of next year while CIT business courses will be relocated to CIT Reid by the start of 2016.
CIT Woden's general education course for adults will be offered at CIT Fyshwick while CIT Tuggeranong will offer a range of other programs.
The library at CIT Woden will remain open into 2016 to support independent study and some flexible learning options, Ms Cover said.
She said the new course locations were chosen to offer students the "best learning experience".
Most students will able to move to the new sites by semester 2 next year, once upgrades have been completed.
"With a more consolidated CIT presence, we can offer students better access to a full range of on-campus services, from academic and personal support services to café facilities and recreational activities, and a more vibrant campus life to participate in," she said.
In May, Education Minister Joy Burch said the government was considering moving what remained of CIT facilities in Woden closer to the town centre, describing it as "not fit for purpose in a modern teaching environment".
The closure comes as activity and investment in the Woden precinct continues to wind down.
It's tallest office tower became a near empty-shell after spending cuts led to a mass exodus of public servants last year.
Woden Valley Community Council maintains the district as been "continually cannibalised" as services are relocated to other areas.
"There most certainly should be a CIT campus in Tuggeranong, but not at the expense of the closing the Woden CIT Campus," president Martin Miller said.
The council believes given its proximity to Canberra Hospital, the campus should remain open and offer health-related courses.
"The CIT has had a campus in Woden for around 30 years which should continue. Given that Woden is home to the Canberra Hospital it makes perfect sense to have a CIT campus that has health-related courses so that students can have adequate on-the-job experience," Mr Miller said.
