Among the late entries is a picture provided by Carol Elvin from Yarralumla. She was strolling along the lake one morning and came upon a gap in the trees, snapping a perfectly framed picture of rowboats glistening in the sun.
"I was captivated by the light caught in the splash of the oars," she said.
Another entry put forward by Ms Elvin shows Black Mountain Tower shrouded by mist in the early morning light. Taken from Yarralumla Primary School oval, she was captured by the glow of the sunrise through the mist and described the scene as a 'show stopper'.
Yarralumla hopeful Marina McDonald has entered a stunning shot of birds surrounding the well-loved blue boat of Yarralumla Bay. She describes the serene picture as resembling a house boat for birds and has titled the image Bird House.
Vanessa Burdett from Amaroo is another strong contender, who managed to capture a photo of a picturesque pair of ducks resting on the lake at sunset.
The Canberra Times winter photo competition will remain open until the last day of August and anyone is free to enter for their chance to win in a share of $1000 in prizes. A maximum of three photos per entrant can be submitted as JPEG attachments to photocomp@canberratimes.com.au.
Don't forget to include your name, address, phone number, and a photo title and description of when and where it was taken.
