THE RUN HOME

The Brumbies will return to Canberra high on confidence, but knowing their run to a guaranteed finals berth is out of their hands. The Brumbies finished their South African tour with six points - a bonus-point win and a bonus-point loss - to hold on to a two-point lead in the Australian conference. However, they will sit on the sidelines while the NSW Waratahs play this weekend, potentially forcing them into a drop from third on the ladder to out of the top six. The Waratahs play the Canterbury Crusaders in a rematch of last season's grand final. If the Waratahs win, they will move into Australia's top spot and hold on to the advantage for the remaining three rounds of the season. The Brumbies play the Pretoria Bulls, the Western Force and the Crusaders in their last three games. It's unlikely two Australian teams will make it into the play-offs. A top-two finish on the ladder has to be the goal, but can the Brumbies get there?
